Challenges Faced in Solar Installation for North Fremantle, Perth Resident:

  • Double-Storey Steep Roof: This new build in North Fremantle featured a challenging double-storey, steep roof, requiring careful planning and specialised equipment.
  • Limited available roof space for solar panels: The roof had multiple orientations and small space available which prevented solar panels being placed together.
  • Coordination with Builders on a New Build: As the building was under construction, the project required close collaboration with builders to ensure seamless integration of solar equipment.
  • Little space in the switchboard: Three phase inverters require three poles in the switchboard and this board was already cramped with other circuitry.

Solution Overview for City Beach Solar Installation:

  • Efficient Coordination During Construction: Australis Solar scheduled the installation to coincide with scaffolding setup, allowing easier access and a safer work environment on the steep, double-storey roof.
  • Installing TIGO optimisers: By strategically installing TIGO optimisers, Australis Solar mitigated the lower production that would have occured due to the different panel orientations.
  • Replaced RCDs with RCBOs and moved Neutral Bar: Our experienced team saved money for our client by upgrading the switches to circuit breakers and freeing up space in their board – saving an expensive board upgrade. Our electrician also moved the Neutral bar to create more space in switchboard.

Whilst carrying out the solar installation, our electrician noticed that the earth bar was rusted and may cause issues in the future. We recommended the client addressed this issue with the builder’s electrician.

Annual Output, Energy Offset, and Monthly Savings:

  • Annual Output: 9,298 kWh
  • Energy Offset: 120%
  • Monthly Savings: Approx. $110.36

Estimated Annual Savings: $1,324.32
