The WA battery rebate is now open. Eligible Synergy customers in Perth can receive a WA Government rebate of up to $1,300 towards an approved residential battery, alongside potential support through the Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program.

WA Battery Rebate: what Perth homeowners need to know
For most Perth households, the relevant WA Residential Battery Scheme pathway is through Synergy. The state rebate can operate alongside eligible federal battery support, but the two programs have different rules.
Eligible Synergy customers can currently receive up to $1,300 under the WA Residential Battery Scheme.
The maximum WA rebate is calculated around the first 10 kWh of usable battery capacity. Larger eligible systems can still participate.
Participation in an eligible Virtual Power Plant product is required to receive the WA Government rebate.
Eligible households with gross annual household income below $210,000 may apply for a no-interest loan of up to $10,000, subject to the scheme's assessment requirements.

Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program
The Australian Government program provides an upfront discount through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). Government guidance describes support as around 30% for a range of eligible battery systems, but the actual dollar amount varies.

A battery should still be sized around your actual energy use. Installing an unnecessarily small battery simply to maximise rebate percentage, or an unnecessarily large battery purely because incentives are available, can both produce a poor result.
Can your home qualify for the WA Battery Rebate?
The rebate is not determined by the battery brand alone. Your customer eligibility, electricity account, inverter, solar system, communications, battery system and installation configuration all matter.

Existing solar needs to be assessed
Having existing solar does not automatically make a property rebate-ready.
When a battery is added, older or incompatible equipment may need modification or replacement so the complete installation meets current electrical standards, communications requirements and whole-of-site compliance.
That can include assessment of the existing inverter, metering, switchboard, protection, communications hardware and how multiple solar or battery inverters operate together.

The right battery can be larger than the WA rebate cap
The WA battery rebate reaches its maximum at 10 kWh of usable capacity, but that does not mean 10 kWh is automatically the right battery size for every Perth home.
Size around actual usage
A household with substantial evening demand, pool equipment, air-conditioning, regular solar exports or future EV charging may have a practical reason to install more storage.
Rebate value is not system value
Federal support tapers for additional capacity above 14 kWh and 28 kWh. That affects economics, but a larger battery may still suit a property where the additional capacity can be regularly charged and used.
Backup is a separate design decision
A battery does not automatically provide whole-home backup. Outage capability depends on the inverter, battery, gateway or switching hardware, phase configuration, available output and loads you expect to operate.

Is the WA battery rebate available in Perth?
Yes. The WA Residential Battery Scheme is currently open. Eligible Perth households supplied by Synergy may receive the WA battery rebate if the customer, property, vendor, equipment, VPP arrangement and installation satisfy the scheme requirements.
How much is the WA battery rebate for Synergy customers?
Eligible Synergy customers can currently receive up to $1,300 under the WA Residential Battery Scheme. The maximum WA rebate is based on 10 kWh of usable battery capacity. Eligible batteries larger than 10 kWh can still participate, but the WA rebate does not keep increasing beyond the applicable maximum.
Do I need to join a VPP to receive the WA battery rebate?
Yes. Participation in an eligible Virtual Power Plant product is a requirement of the WA Residential Battery Scheme. A customer can install a battery without joining the required VPP, but they would not qualify for the WA rebate through that pathway.
Can I receive both the WA and Federal battery incentives?

Can I install more than 10 kWh of battery storage?

Does a rebate-eligible battery automatically provide blackout backup?
No. Rebate eligibility and blackout functionality are separate matters. Backup requires compatible equipment and a compliant design. Available backup power depends on the inverter, battery, gateway or switching hardware, phase arrangement, battery state of charge and household loads.
Is the WA no-interest battery loan available to everyone?
No. The WA scheme currently provides no-interest loans of up to $10,000 for eligible applicants with gross annual household income below $210,000. The loan remains subject to the scheme administrator's eligibility and assessment process.
