Synergy Battery Rewards for Perth Home Battery Owners
Synergy Battery Rewards is Synergy's Virtual Power Plant program for eligible residential customers installing compatible battery storage through the WA Residential Battery Scheme. During eligible activation events, participants can currently earn 70 cents per kWh exported to the energy system. The program has a two-year term with up to 30 activation events per year, but eligibility and equipment requirements apply.
Synergy Battery Rewards at a glance

Install an eligible battery system
Your battery and associated inverter or control solution must meet the relevant WA Residential Battery Scheme and Synergy technical requirements.
Join Battery Rewards
Eligible Synergy customers enter the Battery Rewards arrangement and their compatible system becomes part of Synergy's Virtual Power Plant.
Synergy prepares the battery
Before an activation, Synergy may hold or charge the battery during an activation standby window so energy is available when required.
An activation event occurs
The battery is remotely managed during a peak-demand event. Your household consumption is supplied first and eligible excess energy can be exported.
You receive applicable credits
Activation credits are calculated on eligible exported energy, with energy offset credits also applying in accordance with Synergy's current program terms.
Synergy Battery Rewards eligibility
Simply owning a battery does not automatically make a Perth household eligible for Synergy Battery Rewards. Synergy currently links the program to compatible systems installed through the WA Residential Battery Scheme.

Is Synergy Battery Rewards worth joining?
For an eligible Perth household already installing a suitable battery, Battery Rewards can add another source of value. It should not, however, be used on its own to justify the battery size, system cost or expected payback.

What is Synergy Battery Rewards?
Synergy Battery Rewards is a rewards program for eligible residential customers with compatible battery systems participating in Synergy's Virtual Power Plant. Synergy can remotely coordinate participating batteries during activation events, with customers receiving applicable credits for eligible participation and exported energy.
How much does Synergy Battery Rewards pay?
As at 13 August 2026, Synergy states that Battery Rewards participants can receive activation credits of 70 cents per kWh of eligible electricity exported during an activation event. Actual credits depend on the energy exported and Synergy's current terms, so the payment should not be treated as a guaranteed annual return.
Can I join Synergy Battery Rewards if I already have a battery?
Not simply because you already own a battery. Synergy currently states that Battery Rewards is available to customers installing compatible battery storage through the WA Residential Battery Scheme. Existing equipment, eligibility and the exact system configuration should therefore be checked before assuming it can participate.
How often can Synergy activate my battery?
Synergy currently caps Battery Rewards activation events at 30 per year. Events are expected mainly during periods of high electricity demand, commonly in summer and winter and often between approximately 3 pm and 9 pm.
Can I opt out of an individual Battery Rewards activation event?
No. Synergy currently states that customers cannot choose which individual activation events to participate in because the battery is managed through its communications and inverter controls. Review the current Battery Rewards contract before enrolling.
Does Synergy Battery Rewards include blackout backup?
No. VPP participation and blackout backup are separate functions. Backup depends on the battery and inverter system, switching or gateway equipment, circuits being supported, available battery charge and how the installation has been configured. Australis Solar can design backup requirements separately from Battery Rewards eligibility.
Can I install a battery larger than 10 kWh and still receive the WA rebate?
Yes, provided the installation otherwise meets the WA Residential Battery Scheme requirements. For Synergy customers, the State rebate is currently calculated at $130 per usable kWh up to 10 kWh, giving a maximum State rebate of $1,300. A larger eligible battery can still receive that maximum capped amount.
