Compatible system components
Compare Fronius GEN24 and Reserva
GEN24, GEN24 Plus and Reserva perform different roles. The exact inverter, battery capacity, meter and backup equipment must be selected as one compatible system.
GEN24 and GEN24 Plus
The GEN24 family manages electricity produced by the solar panels, grid connection, system monitoring and compatible energy-management functions.
GEN24 Plus is the hybrid variant used where a compatible DC battery connection is required. A standard GEN24 should not be described as battery-ready without confirming the exact model and available upgrade pathway.
- Available across relevant single-phase and three-phase families
- Active cooling for controlled inverter temperature
- Solar.web production and consumption monitoring
- PV Point basic backup on compatible configurations
- Full Backup only with compatible equipment and models
Reserva battery
Reserva is a modular high-voltage lithium iron phosphate battery designed for compatible Fronius hybrid inverters. DC coupling allows suitable solar energy to be transferred to the battery without first passing through a separate AC battery inverter.
- Two to five battery modules per tower
- IP65 enclosure
- Indoor or protected outdoor installation
- Solar.web integration with compatible systems
- Ten-year manufacturer warranty stated by Fronius
Solar.web
Monitor available solar production, household consumption, grid exchange and battery status through one connected platform. The available information depends on the installed meter and completed system configuration.
Wattpilot
A compatible Wattpilot installation can vary charging in response to available solar surplus. The vehicle, charger model, electrical supply, Smart Meter, cable route and switchboard capacity must still be assessed.
Blackout operation must be designed
Fronius backup options are not all the same
A solar inverter or battery does not automatically supply the property during an outage. Australis Solar must specify the compatible inverter, battery, switching equipment, circuits and expected loads for the required level of backup.
PV Point
PV Point provides a dedicated basic backup supply of up to 3 kW through an appropriately configured socket or selected circuit. Available power depends on the system configuration, solar conditions and whether a compatible battery is connected.
- Designed for selected essential devices
- Not the same as supplying the complete switchboard
- Available load remains limited to the backup output
- Circuit arrangement must be confirmed before installation
Full Backup
Full Backup requires a compatible GEN24 Plus inverter, compatible battery storage and an approved switching or backup controller arrangement that safely isolates the property from the electricity network.
- Can support a wider group of household circuits
- Output remains limited by the inverter and battery
- High starting loads require specific assessment
- Battery charge and solar conditions affect runtime
Designed around the property
What Australis Solar assesses before recommending Fronius
Product selection begins with the property, energy use and future plans. The largest inverter or battery is not automatically the most suitable system.

Local Fronius design and installation experience
Australis Solar’s portfolio includes single-phase and three-phase GEN24 installations across Perth. These examples demonstrate local design and installation experience but should not be used to predict another property’s production, savings or battery performance.
Churchlands: compact roof and single-phase GEN24
A 6.6 kW solar array using 15 Trina 440 W panels, a 5 kW Fronius Primo GEN24 inverter and Fronius Smart Meter. The project required careful panel placement across a property with constrained roof space.
Karrinyup: larger three-phase GEN24 design
A 13.2 kW array using 30 AIKO 440 W panels and a 10 kW Fronius Symo GEN24 three-phase inverter, showing how system capacity and phase arrangement can differ substantially between properties.
Western Australian requirements
Fronius approvals, export settings and battery incentives
Product capability does not guarantee network approval, export eligibility or access to a rebate. The final system must satisfy current product listings, Synergy requirements, Western Power connection conditions and applicable electrical standards.
WA Residential Battery Scheme
Eligible Synergy customers may currently access a WA Government rebate of up to $1,300. Participation requires an approved vendor, an eligible system, an accepted VPP pathway and compliance with the applicable program requirements.
Australis Solar is listed in the WA Residential Battery Scheme vendor directory for Synergy customers. This vendor status does not mean every Fronius configuration automatically qualifies.
Fronius product eligibility
Multiple GEN24 Plus models appear on Synergy’s Supported Solutions List. The exact inverter model, battery, control method and complete whole-of-site configuration must still be checked when the proposal is prepared.
Connection and export requirements
New or upgraded systems installed from 1 May 2026 may need current communications, commissioning and remote connection functionality. Customers who cannot or do not wish to maintain the relevant connectivity may be subject to a fixed 1.5 kW export arrangement.

Practical answers for Perth properties
Fronius solar and battery FAQs
These answers explain the main differences between GEN24, GEN24 Plus, Reserva, backup operation and current WA eligibility considerations.
Is every Fronius GEN24 inverter a hybrid inverter?
No. The GEN24 family includes standard and Plus variants. GEN24 Plus is the hybrid version designed for compatible battery connection. Whether an existing standard GEN24 can be upgraded depends on the exact model, available software option and current Fronius requirements.
Can I connect a Fronius Reserva battery to any GEN24 inverter?
No. Reserva requires a compatible Fronius hybrid inverter. Available battery capacity also depends on the inverter model because official compatibility information shows that some single-phase models support fewer Reserva tower sizes than compatible three-phase models. Australis Solar checks the complete model number before recommending a battery.
What Fronius Reserva battery sizes are available?
Fronius currently states usable capacities of 6.31 kWh, 9.47 kWh, 12.63 kWh and 15.79 kWh using two to five battery modules. The suitable and compatible capacity depends on household use, solar production, inverter model, charging requirements, available installation space and future expansion plans.
Will a Fronius system power my home during a blackout?
Only when the system has been designed for backup operation. PV Point can provide a dedicated basic backup supply of up to 3 kW. Wider Full Backup requires a compatible GEN24 Plus inverter, compatible battery and approved switching equipment. Available power and runtime remain limited by inverter output, battery charge, appliance demand and solar conditions.
Can I add a Fronius battery to an existing solar system?
Sometimes. The existing inverter model, panels, strings, meter, switchboard, monitoring, available battery location and desired backup function must be assessed. An existing compatible hybrid system may support a DC battery pathway, while other properties may require an inverter upgrade or a separately assessed AC-coupled battery.
Can Fronius Wattpilot charge an EV using excess solar?
Yes, when installed as part of a compatible system with the required inverter communication and Fronius Smart Meter. The charger model, vehicle, single-phase or three-phase supply, switchboard capacity, cable route and preferred charging times must still be assessed.
Is a Fronius battery eligible for the WA battery rebate?
Eligibility cannot be assumed from the brand name alone. The exact inverter, battery, approved-product status, VPP pathway, vendor, installation date and customer circumstances must satisfy the current scheme requirements. Eligible Synergy customers may currently receive a rebate of up to $1,300, but approval is not guaranteed.
What should I provide for a Fronius quote?
Provide a recent Synergy bill, the property address, photos of the meter and switchboard, details of any existing solar equipment and your preferred inverter or battery location. Also explain your blackout priorities, expected future electricity use and whether you are preparing for EV charging.
